Prepare your files for upload

To make the most out of Qatium, we recommend you to:

  • Upload as many network elements as possible to gain more practical insights (pipes, junctions, DMAs, customer points...).
  • Set the network projection to ensure that its location on the map is accurate.
  • Connect live data so that it closely reflects the latest state of the physical network.
  • Set water quality parameters to make water treatment processes more efficient.

We know that sometimes there might be some information missing, so we try to create the most complete version of your network – even if you don’t have all the data available. Read this article to learn more about how Qatium works.

⚠️ Important: Before uploading your files, please make sure all of the network elements are connected to a supply source or a tank.

Supported files & formats

These are the file types you can upload to Qatium: EPANET (.inp), GIS (GeoJSON, Shapefiles), .TXT, .CSV.

Depending on the data you have available, to upload or create a network in Qatium you can:

  • Upload an EPANET input file (.inp)
  • Upload your GIS data (GeoJSON and Shapefiles)
  • Combine both .inp and GIS files to have the most complete network
  • Add .CSV files for readings, mapping signals, thresholds and customer points
  • Upload .TXT files to import controls (Simple Controls and Rule Base from Epanet)

Create an EPANET input file (.inp)

If you already have a hydraulic model, you just need to export the .inp file from the modeling tool of your choice

Create a .inp file from EPANET

  1. Go to File in the top menu
  2. Select Export
  3. Choose Network

Create a .inp file from WaterGEMS

  1. Go to File in the top menu
  2. Select Export and then EPANET
  3. A text box about using element IDs might appear: choose No

Create a .inp file from InfoWater Pro

  1. Go to the Model Explorer
  2. Press Command Center
  3. Open the Exchange group
  4. Select Export EPANET

Create a .inp file from InfoWorks WS Pro

  1. Go to the explorer panel
  2. Use your mouse to right-click on the network you want to export
  3. Select Export, then EPANET V2

For more details you can visit: InfoWorks Pro Help - Exporting to EPANET

⚠️ Important: Before importing the resulting file into Qatium, make sure any information from the original model is missing.

Prepare your GIS data

If you have GIS data to create your network in Qatium, just gather all your layers (Shapefiles and/or GeoJSONs) or zip them into a single folder.

If you do not have Shapefiles or GeoJSONs, you can use a software such as QGis, ArcGis or similar to export your data in the formats supported by Qatium.

⚠️ Important: For both .inp or GIS files, make sure you define the properties of your network elements according to our guides.

💡 Tip from Q: We have built complete templates of the main files you can upload into Qatium. Download the .inp model example and the GIS dataset example for a demo of the data to include.
